Full description

This fine violin bow by Marc Laberte, made in Mirecourt around 1950, is a strong and reliable example of mid-20th-century French workshop craftsmanship. Produced within the respected Laberte-Humbert Frères tradition, it reflects the disciplined construction and practical intelligence that made Mirecourt bows widely appreciated by professional musicians. The round stick is carved from fine orange-brown Pernambuco of excellent density and strength. The wood selection allows for firmness and structural stability, giving the bow a confident and robust character. The head is shaped in a strong and slightly square style, clearly defined yet well proportioned, avoiding excess mass while preserving clarity of outline. Mounted in silver, the bow features a traditional ebony frog fitted with a Parisian eye and a one-piece silver button. The craftsmanship is clean and precise throughout, and this particular example remains in excellent condition, preserving its original integrity and aesthetic balance. In playing, the bow offers steadiness and reliability, with a robust core and consistent response. It provides secure articulation and stable control across the string, making it particularly suitable for orchestral use and musicians seeking strength and dependability in daily performance. A very fine example of Marc Laberte’s Mirecourt production, this bow represents a solid and honest expression of mid-century French bow making — practical, well-built, and musically effective.

Violin by Mario Gadda, Mantua 1982

By Mario Gadda  |

This violin by Mario Gadda, made in Mantova in 1982, is a refined stylistic interpretation of Giuseppe Ornati’s Milanese model, featuring elegant, low-arching, finely sculpted edgework and precisely executed scroll and f-holes inspired by the master. Crafted from a beautifully flamed two-piece maple back and fine-grained spruce top, and finished in a thin, luminous golden-orange varnish with subtle antiquing, it offers a powerful, focused, bright, and clean tone with immediate responsiveness. Preserved in mint condition, it is an excellent example of late-20th-century Italian craftsmanship, ideal for the demanding performer.
