Full description

This fine bow by Eugène Cuniot-Hury, made around 1910 during the final period of the maker’s life and work, represents the maturity and confidence of one of Mirecourt’s most respected bow makers. Positioned within the lineage shaped by Voirin and alongside contemporaries such as Sartory, Cuniot-Hury developed a personal style distinguished by clarity of line and disciplined craftsmanship. The round stick is carved from rich red-wine colored Pernambuco of excellent density and quality, exhibiting both strength and flexibility. The head is finely sculpted, lean and elegantly profiled, with the characteristic rounded refinement that defines the maker’s later work. Its proportions reflect balance and structural precision rather than excess mass, embodying both aesthetic restraint and mechanical intelligence. Mounted in silver with a traditional ebony frog, the bow retains all its original components. The craftsmanship throughout is clean, purposeful, and harmoniously executed. In playing, the bow offers steadiness, reliability, and energy. It is quick and articulate under the hand, producing clarity of attack while maintaining stability through the stroke. Its character makes it particularly suitable for musicians seeking precision, control, and dynamic responsiveness without sacrificing strength. An authentic, fully original example from the maker’s mature years, this bow stands as a compelling representation of early 20th-century French bowmaking at its most disciplined and refined.

Violin by Mario Gadda, Mantua 1982

By Mario Gadda  |

This violin by Mario Gadda, made in Mantova in 1982, is a refined stylistic interpretation of Giuseppe Ornati’s Milanese model, featuring elegant, low-arching, finely sculpted edgework and precisely executed scroll and f-holes inspired by the master. Crafted from a beautifully flamed two-piece maple back and fine-grained spruce top, and finished in a thin, luminous golden-orange varnish with subtle antiquing, it offers a powerful, focused, bright, and clean tone with immediate responsiveness. Preserved in mint condition, it is an excellent example of late-20th-century Italian craftsmanship, ideal for the demanding performer.
