Choosing a fine instrument takes time, trust and the chance to play it where you will use it. This page explains how buying from Amorim Fine Violins Cremona works: how a sale is agreed, how you can try an instrument, your return and exchange options, delivery, and the guarantees that come with every instrument.
This summary is part of our Website and Service Terms. The agreement you sign for your instrument sets out the final conditions of your purchase. Nothing on this page limits the rights you have by law as a consumer.
Our website presents instruments; it does not have a shopping cart or online checkout. Every sale is agreed individually with our team.
Some instruments in our collection belong to Amorim; others are offered on behalf of their owners. When Amorim sells in its own name, Amorim is your seller and is responsible to you, whoever owns the instrument. If an owner sells to you directly, we tell you who the seller is, and Amorim's role, before you agree to anything.
Where a price is shown on our website, it is the asking price for that instrument. Instruments priced above €100,000 are shown as "price on request": contact us and we will send you the actual price by email, together with full information on the instrument's condition, provenance and documentation. If, because of a technical error, one of these instruments displays a price of €10,000,000, please note that this is a fictional placeholder, not the instrument's price or market value.
Before you commit, your offer shows the total price, applicable VAT, transport and any other costs. A market opinion or estimated value is not a promise of future resale value or investment return.
Payment is made by bank transfer or by a secure SumUp payment link. Any deposit, instalments and payment deadline are agreed in writing before you accept the offer.
We send payment details only through the channel agreed with you. If you ever receive a message announcing new bank details, do not pay: call us on a number you already know to verify it. Never send card details through our website forms.
Your instrument is packed in our atelier in Cremona in packaging developed by our technicians for valuable instruments, and delivered by a specialised carrier partner.
Instruments marked "available for commission" are made to order and are not available for immediate delivery.
Some antique instruments are Italian cultural property and need an export licence before they can leave Italy; some instruments also need CITES documentation for protected materials. Amorim prepares and applies for the Italian export documents. Licence processing can extend delivery time; we tell you the expected timing before you buy, and the agreement states what happens if a licence is delayed or refused.
Import permits, customs duties and import taxes in the destination country are the buyer's responsibility, unless your agreement says otherwise. We deliver to all countries except Iran, Sudan, Syria, Russia, Belarus and Cuba (some locations), and we cannot ship anywhere the movement would be unlawful, including under EU sanctions.
| Who it is for | Period | What you can do | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trial before purchase | Clients who want to play the instrument at home before deciding | 15 days from collection or arrival | Buy, or return it without obligation |
| 30-day return and exchange | Buyers of instruments delivered to them, including after a trial before purchase. Includes the 14-day legal right of withdrawal | 30 days from delivery, or from the purchase date after a trial | Full refund or exchange |
| Luiz Amorim instruments | Buyers of a Luiz Amorim instrument | 30 days from delivery | Full refund or exchange for another Luiz Amorim instrument |
We want you to be sure before you buy. You can try an instrument for 15 days in your own home and concert hall, before purchasing it.
Each trial is set out in a short written trial agreement covering the instrument and its condition, the trial period, insurance, transport, any deposit and how to return it. The instrument is insured by Amorim during the trial under the terms of that agreement. To arrange a trial we ask for your contact details and, where needed to protect the instrument, a proportionate identity check.
The trial period starts on the day you collect or receive the instrument. If you decide to buy, tell us before the period ends and we will send you the sale agreement. If you decide not to, tell us in writing and return the instrument by the 15th day. A trial never turns into a purchase without your written agreement.
During the trial, please play and handle the instrument with care. Do not repair, adjust, alter or lend it, and tell us straight away about any damage or loss.
The EU home trial is available in: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
When your instrument is delivered to you, you have 30 days to decide whether it is the right one. If you buy after a trial before purchase, the 30 days start on the date of purchase. If you are a consumer buying at a distance or away from our premises, these 30 days include your 14-day legal right of withdrawal and go beyond it.
Within the 30 days you can choose to:
How to return your instrument
Please keep the original packaging until the end of the 30 days: it is designed to protect the instrument in transit, and your arrival kit explains how to repack it. If you no longer have it, contact us and we will help.
The 30-day return and the legal right of withdrawal apply to instruments bought remotely. They do not apply to instruments bought in person at our atelier, where you can play the instrument before you decide.
Every instrument made by Luiz Amorim comes with a 30-day trial after delivery. If it is not right for you, we refund the full amount paid or exchange it for another Luiz Amorim instrument, as soon as one is available. The instrument must be returned in the same condition in which you received it. This also applies to commissioned instruments made to your specifications. If you cancel a commission before the instrument is delivered, an administrative fee of 2% of the price applies, as set out in your commission agreement.
We believe in long relationships with our musicians and collectors. If, at any time after your purchase, you wish to move to an instrument of greater value from our available collection, we will take back the instrument you bought from us at the full net price you paid. VAT and other taxes paid on the original purchase are not included in the trade-in value. The same applies to instruments by Luiz Amorim, which can be traded in towards a Luiz Amorim instrument of greater value.
Contact us as soon as you notice any damage and send us photographs of the instrument as it arrived. Please keep all the packaging until the matter is settled. You can choose to have it repaired by our atelier or to receive a full refund. Amorim covers all repair and return costs.
Legal guarantee of conformity. If you are a consumer, Amorim is responsible for any lack of conformity with the agreed description that becomes apparent within two years of delivery, as provided by Italian and EU law. This applies to antique and contemporary instruments alike. Depending on the case, you are entitled to repair, replacement, a price reduction or termination of the contract.
Amorim 1-year guarantee. In addition, every instrument comes with our own 1-year guarantee against defects in making, restoration and adjustment carried out before the sale. To use it, contact us and bring or send the instrument to our atelier. This guarantee is in addition to your legal rights and does not replace them.
Every instrument we sell comes with a certificate of authenticity: historic instruments with an Amorim certificate and its dossier, and contemporary instruments with the certificate issued by their maker. The documents included are listed in your sale agreement. Our historic instruments are researched, examined and documented by our experts and the Amorim Lab, and our contemporary makers are selected by our curators for their craftsmanship and sound.
A certificate records our professional opinion based on the examination and information available at its date. If you later sell the instrument, the new owner can contact us to verify the certificate.
