What to Consider Before Buying
a Fine Instrument

01

Sound and playability

A fine instrument must respond to the player. Tonal character, projection and playability often matter as much as name and origin.

02

Maker and origin

The maker, school and period of construction define artistic and historical relevance, and remain central to long-term recognition.

03

Condition

Originality, restoration history and structural integrity directly influence both sound and value, and require expert assessment.

04

Long-term value

Provenance, market positioning and craftsmanship determine how an instrument retains and develops value over time.

The Amorim expertise

Why Buy from Amorim

01

Based in Cremona

The global center of violin-making for five centuries. Being here means handling high-level instruments as daily work, seeing great examples constantly, and transacting in the market rather than observing it from a distance.
02

The expert eye of a copyist

Luiz Amorim copies the great Italian makers: measuring, studying and reproducing every choice they made. Over decades it has built an expertise that identifies a maker's hand and understands its every detail.
03

Scientific analysis in the Amorim Lab

Infrared and ultraviolet imaging, X-ray analysis, dendrochronology and structural diagnostics, carried out in our own laboratory — and a condition report written with the precision those findings deserve.
04

Expertise in sound

An instrument is not only wood and varnish. We assess each one on its own terms, and we adjust each one — setup, strings, soundpost — until it answers the player who will use it.
05

Transparent personal service

We work with musicians, collectors, and institutions across the world. Every transaction is handled personally, and we stay available for the conversation afterwards.
06

A trusted family legacy

Amorim is a family business, with the same values as the great Cremonese workshops before us. Our reputation depends on every document we sign.

Testimonials

Trusted by World-Class Musicians

Since the first violin I tried I was very happy with the fact that they don’t sound new. The violins sound really like there has been history. They are very easy to play but at the same time interesting to play, in the sense that you can find colors in the sound. The more you play the more you find and this is what matters to a violinist.

Leonidas Kavakos

Violinist, Greece

The violin that I have just purchased from Luiz is without question the best copy of a Guarneri “del Gesù” that I have put under my chin. It is responsive, big and beautiful sounding all in one. As you probably know, I used to play on the original Sainton “del Gesù” and it is no less commanding. In fact, the varnish is even more beautiful than the original.

Elmar Oliveira

Violinist, USA

When I met the Amorim family for the first time in Cremona I felt a big trust from the start. They helped me to find my top level instrument with patience and professionalism. I appreciate the close collaboration which I can only recommend especially for those who are in the middle of the process to find their own Instrument. I bought a wonderful violin by Matteo Goffriller in the Amorim Workshop in Cremona.

Julian Fahrner

Concertmaster, Germany

The instrument (Luiz Amorim copy of Montagnana) not only brings a lot of warmth, but also bass support and clarity to the sound. It gives some kind of personal singing voice to the music and is something special to work with. I feel that it is the perfect mix of the shape and appearance of the original cello, which is made very much like the original with the beautiful red/brown varnish. If you look at the back, you can see the three-dimensional qualities in the structure of the wood and the varnish, and I think that’s really appealing.

Daniel Müller-Schott

Cellist, Germany

When I play, my cello by Luiz Amorim, what happens is that I almost forget that I am playing a modern instrument. The deep sound of the basses of this instrument is really very unique and this reminds me of some of the great cellos that I have tried before in my life, Strad, Montagnana, and a few other ones. It has so many of the qualities that you expect from an instrument that is 300 years old or more.

Antonio Meneses

Cellist, Brazil

Sara Pastine

Having acquired Luiz Amorim’s newest 1744 “Sainton” Del Gesù violin, I can wholeheartedly state that he is the finest living violin maker. His instruments are works of art, in addition to being top rate concert violins. Bravissimo Luiz on yet another monumental achievement!!

Sean Avram Carpenter
