A Bow by Charles Louis Bazin

Violin bow by Charles Louis Bazin, Mirecourt, c. 1920

This amazing Modern Period French bow shows Louis Bazin's careful and refined approach. Considered to be the most consistent maker of the family history, Louis' bows elegance is at the rule in this example. In our opinion, this bow highpoint is the round chamfered "swan" style head. More

      Full description

This bow differs from many of the bows made in the period by members of the Bazin family, who, in setting out to copy great examples of French bow-making, such as F.X. Tourte, replicated even then some details of antique bows that were no longer so common. This bow is a copy of Tourte's model commonly called "Swan-head", due to the elongated shape of the bow's tip. This style was also widely used by other great archetiers such as Joseph Henry. Closer to what is expected from the proposal of a cello bow of the time, this model confers great stability and quick response while preserving a more delicate profile throughout the bow, in which the distance between the hair and the stick is slightly narrower.

      Charles Louis Bazin

Charles Louis Bazin was the third generation of the family, at the time already settled as one of the most influential workshops of Mirecourt. His bows are noted for their exquisite balance, responsiveness, and playability. His innovative designs and refined techniques earned him renown among both musicians and fellow craftsmen.Learn more

      Violin by Giovanetti&Schultz, Firenze 2024

      By Giovannetti & Schultz  |

This Stradivari copy was crafted by the hands of a rising star maker. Giovannetti & Schultz faithfully represent the new generation of Italian violin makers, bringing modern thinking to the violin-making scenario. For us, its high point is the violin's scroll; it is a delicate and well-crafted piece of violin.
