Neapolitan Violin, Naples, c.1850
By Neapolitan School of Violin Making |
A beautiful violin made in the Neapolitan School is a representative example of the early modern violin-making scenario, showing the elegant and careful experimentation proved by those maskers answering the increasing demands of the musicians and their repertoires. From our point of view, the most impactful details of this fine violin are the typically Neapolitan elegant and thin-lined purfling, which curiously presents a deviation in the format of a semi-circle towards the center of the instrument at the upper part of the back in accordance to the aesthetic taste of the mid-1800s.
