Full Description
This violin by Romeo Antoniazzi was made in Milan in 1910. This is a particularly fine example of his work, showing a precise hand and attention to detail. A highlight is the well inserted purfling, with a beautiful encounter in the corners. Romeo worked for many people and is hard to find instruments with his own labels, this violin presents a label of his brother Riccardo.
The back is in two pieces of maple with a faint, irregular figure. The top is of medium grain, opening towards the center. An orange-brown varnish over a golden ground shows the light wear of a played instrument: rubbed through on the upper treble side of the top, worn at the edges and corners, and marked by a cluster of small scratches in the centre of the lower back. In almost mint condition.
Accompanied by a certificate from Eric Blot.
