Maker Interview

What famous people play your instruments?

Glauco Bertagnin, Eugenio Falanga, Giuseppe Giorgi, Marco Favento.

Why did you start making instruments?

When I was 14 years old, I enrolled in the lutherie school because I was very fascinated by the world of violin making.

Why your instruments are so special?

Each of my instruments is a unique piece, and each has its own story while maintaining my personality. I continuously look for stylistic and technical improvements to improve the acoustics.

What is your inspiration?

I always try to give a personal imprint to each of my works, always inspired by the great luthiers of the past.

I had the pleasure of meeting maestro Andrea Cabrini, three years ago and his good humor and positivity immediately impressed me. I was able to find the same qualities in the sound of his violins, one of which I am happily in possession. Andrea's instruments, as well as having a warm and luminous varnish, are endowed with a beautiful sound to "dig," warm and rich in harmonics. Cabrini is a luthier who, with his work, continues the renowned and ancient Cremonese art of violin making with passion and love.

Glauco Bertagnin

The first thing that impressed me in Andrea's violin was the scent of the varnish. A honey-colored varnish, dense and rich in bright shades. I noticed the construction expertise that refers to a consolidated tradition, the excellent choice of materials, the soft and strong wood, the cut of the f-holes, and the perfectly sculpted volute. A great violin maker is recognizable in the construction project and in the execution. Andrea's hand is immediately noticeable in his instruments. Then I started playing it: the neck is very comfortable, the sound comes out ready and decisive, warm and deep, with a richness of expression reminiscent of old instruments. I immediately understood that Andrea had stolen the secret: to build an instrument that follows you, but sometimes, when needed, he knows how to show you the way.

Marco Favento, Ensemble Lumen Harmonicum

I constantly try violins, especially by contemporary makers, since I am a violinist passionate about stringed instruments... In every instrument one certainly appreciate is the sound, the aesthetic, the workmanship, how it is assembled, the tonal quality... and it is difficult to make all these factors coincide to choose a violin without a doubt. In Andrea Cabrini's violins, I have always found all these components, having tried and played enough of them and it impresses and amazes me that playing one after the other, the sound average of his violins is always very high. I tried some of his violins just finished, not yet played, and after the first minutes playing, the violins are ready and open - the sound is already mature that seems to have already been played for years. Then, there is the aesthetic part and the workmanship that is impeccable, with non-invasive varnishes to the beauty of the wood, and shape and character of the violin that the author manages to give. A particular attention, not to be underestimated for violinists, is the comfort of the neck and fingerboard worked by the author, where in addition to being comfortable for the movement of the fingers, it is absolutely precise to find a good intonation, without the left hand struggling. Between the many names of luthiers, and many violins I have tried, I am absolutely convinced that I made the right choice to buy a violin by Andrea Cabrini. Even today, comparing to others, even by well-known luthiers, it is difficult to find an instrument with similar qualities.
