      Full description

This rare and exceptional instrument exhibits the versatile and spontaneous approach of Gennaro Gagliano and his profound knowledge of the great Cremonese tradition. It shows some peculiar details that precisely represent the work of Gennaro Gagliano. Made in a rare model for this maker, the violin combines the classic characteristics that elected Gennaro as one of the finest of the many family generations: The precise craftsmanship, the neat work, the elegant and noble style, and the refined varnish. Like the majority of his instruments, this violin shows undeniable Cremonese inspiration, and more precisely, the recovery of an Amatisè approach that was somehow already dated at the time and seen not often within the instruments of the family, noticeable in its curved arching, delicate and exquisite f-wholes design, and cut. The varnish, purfling, fluting, wood quality, and finishing are as classic as they can be. The top is eccentrically made of a single piece of spruce of varied grain, gradually narrowing itself towards the treble side. The back and ribs are made of spruce of common origin to most of the Galiano family output from this period, showing beautiful deep flaming, textured by the gentle medullary rays dots that run all over the piece. The typical orange-brown varnish over the golden ground seals the beauty of the materials.

Violin Bow by Emil Max Penzel, Erlbach, c. 1930

      By Emil Max Penzel  |

A unique mastermaker crafted this Exceptional Pre-WorldWarII German bow. One of the most recognized makers of Germany's early 1900s, Emil Max Penzel, elegantly displays his references and his origins among the makers of the Pfretszchner workshop in this bow, yet preserves and flaunts his own style. In our opinion, the most noticeable aspect of this bow, beyond the excellent craftsmanship, is the stunning high-quality Pernambuco wood.
