A Viola by Amedeo Simonazzi

Viola by Amedeo Simonazzi, Reggio Emilia, 1970

This intriguing modern Italian viola was made by the hands of one of the great names of Italian violin making of the 20th Century. It exhibits all the main characteristics of Simonazzi's later works. The yellow-orange colour, the personal model, and the raw varnish texture. In our point of view, its viola distinguishes itself by the stunning maple used for the back, neck and head. More

      Full description

This amazing Italian Viola is one of the last instruments ever made by the great Emilian master Amedeo Simonazzi. The amazing golden ground colour under the varnish and the details of the personal model used such as the slightly angled and finely cut f-holes, the narrower body and the wide open corners show how deeply he was inserted in the Emilian Violin making tradition. His long and prolific career, and the high demand for high-level instruments at the region due to the vivid music scenario have demanded from Simonazzi the highest acoustic results for what his instruments are known for.

      Amedeo Simonazzi

Amedeo Simonazzi learned the craft from Stefano Scarampella, but was already born and raised in a musical family. Through his long life and career, Simonazzi developed his own models and made instruments after the great Cremones masterpieces of Stradivari, Guadagnini and Guarneri as well. Learn more
