Born in Kempten in 1965, Sibylle Fehr-Borchardt developed an early interest in both playing and crafting violins. This dual fascination led her, in 1985, to Cremona—home of the great violin-making tradition—where she became a student of the esteemed master luthier Francesco Bissolotti. She also studied under Master Makers Sgarabotto, Garimberti, and Sacconi, Bissolotti, learning the principles of the traditional Cremonese school, which continues to shape Sibylle's work to this day. She trained in Bissolotti’s workshop for several years, developing her skills and deepening her understanding of the craft. During this formative period, she also met her husband, Gaspar Borchardt. Ever since their meeting, the two have been working side by side. Her atelier, located in the heart of Cremona’s downtown, is a testament to the enduring legacy of classical violin making and serves as a reflection of her commitment to tradition and craftsmanship.
