Maker Background
Born in 1755 in Perugia, Pietro Pallotta was not born in a family of violin makers. His father appears to have been a tavern hoster. Apparently Pietro lived his entire life in Perugia, where he married his wife, and later died in 1830. Little information exists regarding Pietro Pallotta's professional endeavors beyond historical records confirming his presence in Perugia during the late 18th to early 19th centuries. He demonstrated meticulous craftsmanship in producing his instruments, characterized by small soundholes, symmetrically carved scroll with the rounded eyes and the beautifully chosen local wood of often wild patterns. Recognized as one of Umbria's finest artisans of his era, Pallotta also served as the mentor of Giovanni Rossi, fostering a collaborative relationship that endured throughout their careers.
