Maker Background
Born in the region of Modena in 1851, Cavani worked for many years for the Conservatories of Parma and Bologna, and his instruments are famous for their very fine acoustic qualities. Often he would also work reusing high quality material from constructions to get long aged old wood for the instruments.Cavani worked with a wide range of models mostly copying the old Italian masters, specially Stradivari, 'Del Gesù', and Gagliano. He had an overall prolific career and won several gold medals in violin making competitions.Giovanni Cavani died in 1936 but his activity was continued by his son Vincenzo.
