Full description

This masterful cello is an inspired copy of a 1690s Joseph Filius Andrea Guarneri, reflecting the unique characteristics of his early to mid-period creations. The instrument features a slightly shorter body length complemented by rounder, wider bouts, giving it a distinctive square-like shape. The top plate, crafted from Val di Fiemme spruce with a medium-wide grain, offers exceptional resonance. The one-piece slab-cut back, made of Bosnian maple with subtle, elegant flames, enhances the cello's visual appeal, accentuating its generous full arching and refined outline. Finished with a red-brown oil-rosin varnish over a golden-brown ground, the instrument showcases an aged patina that highlights the tool marks left by its maker, paying homage to the spontaneous and expressive craftsmanship of the Guarneri family. The scroll is delicately carved and slightly smaller, exuding finesse while maintaining boldness in the pegbox design. The varnish settled within the carved details gives the scroll a warm, soft appearance—reinforcing the timeless artistry captured in this exceptional instrument.
