Maker Background

Born in Castelfranco Emilia, a small town in the region of Modena, Rosti was active as a violin maker during the last part of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st.

His instruments follow the Emilia Romagna school of making.

Born in Castelfranco Emilia, a small town in the region of Modena, Rosti worked as a violin maker during the last part of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. His instruments follow the Emilia Romagna school of making. Born in 1937, Vittorio Rosti was, during his whole life, a woodworker. From his early age he worked as a sculptor, carpenter, and artisan. In the 90s, Rosti started studying and working with violin making with some guidance from Giuseppe Goldoni, a self-taught violin maker also from the region of Modena. As part of his background knowledge as a woodworker, Rosti focused a lot of effort on personally searching for wood, specially in the Val di Fiemme region in north Italy, from where comes the resonance spruce used in the most fine Italian violins.

More than a listing, a considered choice

Every maker we represent is selected on technical, historical and commercial grounds. Each instrument is examined, documented and presented with the same care given to a Stradivari from our own collection. Our role is consultative: we help you find the right instrument, not simply the one that is for sale.
