The Art Of Copies
FROM LUPOT TO AMORIM
Since the 19th century, when makers like Nicolas Lupot and Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume began crafting instruments that looked centuries old, the violin copy has developed into a refined art. This exhibition is dedicated to the art of the antiqued copy — the violin that imitates not only form and proportions, but age, wear, and history.
Far from deception, the antiqued copy is an act of preservation and cultural transmission. It allows musicians to experience the legacy of Amati, Stradivari, and Guarneri, while offering makers a way to study and carry forward the tradition of the masters. Today, luthiers such as Luiz Amorim continue this practice as both knowledge and art.
On display: Stradivari Willemotte, Kavakos 1734 Violin, Amorim Willemotte Benchcopy 2025, Vuillaume 1855 Violin, Lott 1858 Violin, Voller Brothers 1900 Violin, Fagnola 1910 Violin.
