Gaspar Borchardt, born in Germany in 1961, moved to Cremona in 1984 to pursue his passion for violin making. He graduated from the Scuola di Liuteria in Cremona.Since 1990, Gaspar has been working alongside his wife, Sibylle Fehr-Borchardt, herself a violin maker as well and former student of Francesco Bissolotti. She earned her diploma in Germany in 1989. Together, they run their workshop in the heart of Cremona, overlooking the city’s central square, Piazza del Duomo—a location steeped in violin-making heritage.
Gaspar and Sibylle work closely with musicians and their approach is rooted in the traditional Cremonese construction method passed down from Stradivari and used by great makers like the Amati family.
They build handcrafted instruments using their own personal models. Their work unites the beauty of line, curve, and color with a refined acoustic identity, using top-quality, long-seasoned tonewoods. Their instruments offer both visual elegance and a rich, resonant sound.
