Maker Interview
Why did you start making instruments?
Ever since I was a little child, I have always loved the violin. I started playing the violin when I was eight years old. But even at that age, I felt a thirst for something more. I soon found a musical instrument shop near my house, and I started to visit it every day.
I was fascinated with creating instruments from the moment I discovered the process of making instruments. It has always been attractive to me that I can create a musical instrument with my own two hands that can then create music. The most beautiful thing is that someone will remember my name and my works hundreds of years from now.
Why your instruments are so special?
All of my instruments are made with excellent quality materials, and they are one-of-a-kind with their own beauty and sound. My instruments feature characteristics such as easy and comfortable to play, responds quickly and project well, and has a rich and warm low register and a powerful high end.
What is your inspiration?
I believe in the beauty of imperfection, such as marks left by past tools, natural asymmetry, scratches, signs of age and use, and uneven varnish tones.
These aspects could be seen as imperfections, but they can also make an instrument more unique and special. I think that is why I love to craft antique-style instruments.
To me, the natural beauty of an instrument is more attractive and dramatic.
