A Violin by Pierre Flavetta

Cremona Violin by Pierre Flavetta, Cremona, 2022

An antiqued Cremona violin modeled after Gasparo Bertolotti da Salò, crafted by the hands of a rising-star maker. As in any of his works, this violin shows Pierre’s great knowledge of the old master’s techniques. In our vision, the bold model, the strong antiquing, and the amazing texture left by replicating the tool marks and handcraft work of Gásparo da Salò's original instrument are this violin highlights. Full description

This Cremona violin is a copy inspired by one of the most important names in Italian violin-making history: Gasparo da Salò. Besides the model and design, Flavetta carefully reproduced minor stylistic details that are classic from the Brescian great maker, such as the continuous lines channeled all around the plates following the purfling, the style of the purfling joints, the scroll deep carving, all under his interpretation of the aging process of a violin from the 1500s. The maple wood used for the back, ribs, neck, and head presents a gorgeous deep flamed pattern resembling the quality of the wood used by the great antique Brescian makers. The top is spruce with a fine grain from Val di Fiemme. The violin is covered with a lovely red-brown antiqued varnish, cooked following historical recipes, and by an amazing layer of patina that enhances the beauty of the powerful golden ground.

      Pierre Flavetta

Graduated from the Antonio Stradivari School of Violin Making in Cremona, Pierre’s focus is on old violin makers’ varnish, the reason why he started building copies of the masters from the golden period.Learn more

Violin bow by Charles Louis Bazin, Mirecourt, c. 1920

      By Charles Louis Bazin  |

This amazing Modern Period French bow shows Louis Bazin's careful and refined approach. Considered to be the most consistent maker of the family history, Louis' bows elegance is at the rule in this example. In our opinion, this bow highpoint is the round chamfered "swan" style head.
